胎毛筆 My Japanese Brush that is made from...

Today is my happy day. I got this Japanese calligraphy brush from my family in Japan. This is soooo special for us because this brush is made from my daughter's hair! I did her first hair cut right after her second Birthday. I sent it to my parents', and my sister arranged every thing to make it happen. (Thank you so much, my sister!) I almost started crying when I opened the box. A lot of sweet memories came back to my mind. It is nice to have something like this. I have a little piece of my baby in my hands forever! I love the culture in Japan... Makes me wonder when I can go back there.

and of course, I am wondering where I can decorate this one of kinds curly brush...

  1. That is really a beautiful sentiment. Is it traditional to have a brush made from a family member's hair?

And thank you for the kind words on my blog. I appreciate you coming over and leaving a comment.

  2. Thank you for the comments Courtney!

It's a good question. Yes, it is an ancient Japanese tradition. Since there is only a once in a lifetime opportunity, a lot of Japanese people make a brush from babies first hair.

It is said to invoke the good fortune, health, happiness, and intelligence etc...
